Every detail considered together
The kitchen was treated as one of the most important rooms in the home: practical and pleasurable to use, yet beautiful enough to combine classic lines with the demands of modern life. Cabinet widths, internal storage, finishes and architectural features could therefore be developed as a single composition rather than selected from a standard formula.
The historical collection included quintessential English furniture by Matthew Marsden, handmade in Lancashire with careful attention to detail and traditional furniture-making methods. Different timbers and painted finishes could be combined for a rich, warm effect, while mantles, mouldings and smaller details were designed to complement one another.
Made around the room
Islands, dressers, larders and feature cabinetry were planned around individual spaces and routines. The aim was a thoughtful and original design with useful storage, visual calm, lasting craftsmanship and the permanence of well-made furniture.
